Description

The "Walami" Trail derives its name from the Bunun indigenous language, meaning "let's do something together," sounding similar to the Japanese word for fern, "walabi."

This trail is often surrounded by lush green ferns, resembling a fern museum.

In May, the trail offers views of blooming mountain tung blossoms and fireflies in the Huangma River Valley.

In autumn, the landscape transforms with red maple leaves, adding vibrant colors to the trail.

Located in Yuli Township in the Huatung Valley, Walami is part of the eastern section of the Eight Trigrams Pass during the Japanese colonial era, spanning approximately 13.6 kilometers.

Following the Laku Laku River (Lele River) valley, the trail features gentle slopes and excellent visibility.

The diverse vegetation along the trail includes intact mid-low altitude broad-leaved forests and cedar plantations, creating a rich ecological system from subtropical to temperate zones.

The abundant flora and fauna make it an ideal trail for light hiking and wildlife observation.

Self-drive to the parking lot opposite to the "Nanan Visitor Center".

Shuttle service within Hualien City area is available for an additional fee.

Participants

-Children aged 6 and above can participate. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent.
-For safety reasons, ensure good health suitable for engaging in outdoor activities. Those with sudden illnesses such as heart disease, major illnesses, cardiovascular disease, asthma, epilepsy, pregnant individuals, or those unable to complete the itinerary independently, should not participate.

Minimum Participants

4 people required for the activity to take place.

If the minimum number of participants isn't met, the organizer will notify for postponement or cancellation.

- Activity arrangements may be adjusted due to participant conditions, facility conditions, or weather factors, prioritizing safety and overall quality.

- In case of typhoons, heavy rain, or other uncontrollable factors, if the company deems the day unsuitable for the activity, the company reserves the right to change or cancel the itinerary. - Participants are expected to adhere to certain rules throughout the activity for safety and environmental conservation. Failure to comply may result in accidents for which the company is not liable.

- Participants who do not attend or are late (over 20 minutes) will be automatically disqualified without refund or rescheduling.

- Photos taken during the activity may be used by the company for promotional purposes.

Attire

For hiking activities, please wear appropriate hiking attire, comfortable shoes, and consider bringing hiking poles.

Friendly Reminders

- Please bring an adequate supply of water (recommended 2 liters), backpack, rain gear (for heavy rain), umbrella (for light rain), appropriate clothing, sun hat, small towel, sunscreen, avoid wearing perfume (to prevent attracting insects), snacks, and any other necessary items.
